Attending events for network marketers and meeting different people in business is such an outstanding experience! Attending events where John Maxwell is speaking has the power to be life changing!

John Maxwell loves talking about the “Rule of Five,” which he practices. Every day he writes, files his papers, does a lot of deep thinking and more. These are some of the five things he does every single day, and he also does all of these things consistently!

His Rule of Five can really help you in your life! Below are tips on how to apply his Rule of Five to your life!

Rule #1 – Know What You Want To Accomplish

It's essential in life to know what you want to accomplish.

Are you on a health quest or journey? If so, you need to know what your goal for weight loss is, or how many pounds do you want to lose within a time frame?

For some people in business, their goal can be to impact as many people as they possibly can. When this is a goal, these people need to absolutely know what it is they want to accomplish that gives them their drive, energy, and their passion for getting to work every single day. Even on days where they're tired, they still have that determination because they know what they want to accomplish.

Whatever your goals in life are, you need to know what you want to accomplish. You can't get there without knowing and without having a game plan to get you there.

Rule #2 – Have the Right Tools to Accomplish Your Goals

Tools are everything, even when it comes to accomplishing your goals! If you're going to be someone that wants to learn how to run a marathon, you're going to have to have your running shoes and figure out a training plan to have all the tools in place to successfully run a marathon and not get injured.

Whatever your goals are, you have to have the right tools to accomplish them. If you're on a weight-loss journey, healthy aging journey, or a journey to increase your income, there are always tools that can support you.

Think about what you want to accomplish and what proper tools you have in place or need to have in place to achieve your plan.

Rule #3 – You Have to Be Focused

When it comes to a lot of things in life, including going after your goals in life, having focus is everything! Let focus be your guide!

So many of us can quickly become distracted, whether it's by noise, smell, or sight. If you want to be wholly focused on a task, you have to eliminate your distractions or it will consume you and will derail you from what you need and want to do.

If you find you become very easily distracted, you have to figure out whatever your goals are, make sure you've got the right tools in place, and stay focused! But, also make sure you're kind and forgiving to yourself when your focus slips – because it will.

Rule #4 – Be Consistent

If you are consistent every single day, you will accomplish your goals. In fact, it's almost impossible not to be. It becomes a routine for you just as much as brushing your teeth is!

John Maxwell said about himself, “I've lost track somewhere around 90 books so far, and I'm not done writing”. He continues saying, “I have to live longer because I've got a lot more great ideas.” Every single day he's consistent. He writes every day! He doesn't miss a beat, and neither should we when we want to reach our hopes and dreams!

So, ask yourself, what is it that you are shooting for? What are your goals, and how can you be consistent?

A lot of people who have a great idea will start something, pumped full of energy and motivation, and then will completely stop the work they put so much effort into! Some people who are like this still haven't achieved their goals because they've started and stopped. They needed to be consistent, and because they weren't, their dreams flourished as fast as they began.

Here is a prime example; right after the holidays where most of us have gorged ourselves silly with eating, we see that the average weight gain over the holidays is 7 to 10 pounds and in January, we then see the gyms get flooded with the same people wanting to lose weight. For the first couple of weeks, the gym is packed full, but by the end of January, it starts doling down again around February. Only the regular gym subscribers are still there. The other people gave up.

The problem is: People are not consistent!

If you are like one of these people and you want the exercise to be a part of your life, you have to get to the gym at least three days a week. If you can't get to the gym, then make sure to get outside, find ways to move your body, If you've got fitness equipment at home, exercise at home. The bottom line is, you have to do it consistently to get results.

Rule #5 – Do Not Quit

Don't quit on your dreams! Too many times, people just quit on themselves and their goals. They feel bad for quitting on others when, in fact, they are instead quitting on themselves and only themselves. You need to follow through with whatever your goals are and do not quit! We all screw up, we all make mistakes, we all have setbacks, and we all have to sometimes give ourselves a big kick in the butt and get going again! Self-discipline yourself!

The Rule of Five Works When You Put the Commitment Into It

While you can read all about these in-depth rules from The Rule of Five, no step will work unless you put the work into it yourself, commit and keep going! You can be your own worst enemy if you're not careful, but you don't need to be! You can also be your best motivator and victor; so get out there and get your accomplishments!
